Photo Contest to Focus on Historic Barns of Trent Hills

 February 16, 2010 - Contest Winners Announced
Although many barns are still in great shape and function as they always did, there are those that have seen better days and have become liabilities and financial burdens. The Trent Hills Heritage Committee and the Municipality would like to thank all of the photographers who participated in this contest.   Over one hundred photographs were submitted and will become a basis for the Municipality's growing photographic record of our historic farm buildings. We hope to share these with the public in upcoming projects such as a celebratory Heritage Barn Poster and perhaps a calendar.

The prizes were awarded as follows:

Schellé Holmes, Warkworth, ON

1st Prize - Schelle Holmes

2nd Prize

"This contest aims to highlight the importance of these rural buildings in our heritage landscapes" said Des Conacher, Chair of the Heritage Committee, "Historic barns are magnificent reminders of the importance of agriculture in the history and development of our community. They are slowly disappearing from the landscape and we want local photographers to help compile a record of their existence and compile a visual archive for future generations."
