Campbellford Recreation and Wellness Centre Receives Funding

Posted On Thursday April 29, 2021

Today’s important funding announcement by MPP Piccini and MP Lawrence is welcome news after years of planning and community support for a new Recreation and Wellness Centre for Trent Hills.

The Municipality of Trent Hills is set to receive a total of $7,580,496 from the Community, Culture and Recreation infrastructure funding stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) toward the construction of the Campbellford Recreation and Wellness.  This new facility that has been in the works for over a decade will become a reality for Trent Hills with this funding support.

Mayor Crate shared, “Many people have worked hard to bring this project to life; keeping the vision alive over the years as the project developed and evolved.   As I said at today’s announcement, this is a real highlight for me in my role as Mayor.  I grew up playing sports and still make fitness part of my daily life so I see clearly how this new facility will have benefits for all ages in Trent Hills.”

The Recreation and Wellness Centre features an ice pad and aquatics centre with both a lane pool and smaller therapy pool as well as a complete fitness centre.  This new recreation facility will replace the existing Campbellford Arena and provide year round aquatics and fitness programming for the community.

The Campbellford Recreation and Wellness Centre will be operated jointly by YMCA Northumberland and the Municipality of Trent Hills.  “YMCA Northumberland has had a long standing partnership with the Municipality of Trent Hills and is thrilled to be taking this next step where we will work together at the new Campbellford Recreation and Wellness Centre, by providing a variety of services and programs that will enhance the health and wellness of individuals living in the rural communities, as well as creating many employment and development opportunities for those we serve” says Eunice Kirkpatrick, CEO YMCA Northumberland.

With an estimated construction cost of $17,000,000, this ambitious project is made possible by this funding support from the upper levels of government, the community fundraising that has occurred to date and the support of the Campbellford Seymour Community Foundation.  The remaining amount to be funded is part of the Municipality’s annual Recreation and Redevelopment Plan budget.

The new facility will be located just off Hwy 30 on Seymour Quarry Road in the Campbellford Business Park with work slated to begin in the late fall of 2021.
