Recreation Facilities Update – New Location for Recreation and Wellness Centre

Posted On Wednesday May 22, 2019

At their May 21st meeting, Council approved a new plan and location for the proposed Recreation and Wellness Centre.

Based on a Facility Options Report recently completed by Taskforce Engineering Inc., Council has decided to locate the Recreation and Wellness Centre on municipally owned lands in the Campbellford Business Park, just off County Road 30.   This location provides better ease of access for all of Trent Hills as well as visiting teams and patrons.

The proposed Recreation and Wellness Centre will feature an ice pad and aquatics centre with both a lane pool and smaller therapy pool as originally planned.  The design of the facility is more modest than previous versions with an estimated construction cost of $16,000,000.

The development of the Recreation and Wellness Centre was identified in the recently completed Trent Hills Strategic Plan as a major priority for the community to promote health and wellness.

“We are pleased to see progress on the plans for this facility which is so greatly needed in Trent Hills.  This new location and design is much more realistic and with the help of the community we are confident that it will be built and widely used by Trent Hills residents” states Mayor Bob Crate.

Though the Recreation and Wellness Centre is still dependent on external funding, Council is hopeful that the required funds will be raised and construction on this important project will begin in 2022.   The Municipality of Trent Hills has a financial plan in place to fund approximately $9,000,000 leaving $7,000,000 to be raised from upper levels of government, community fundraising and facility sponsors.

Taskforce also reviewed the renovation plans for the Warkworth Arena and provided an updated cost estimate of $1,500,000 for the improvements including an accessible community room and larger dressing rooms.  This project remains a priority for Council and is also dependent on funding assistance and community fundraising.
