Freezing Rain & Strong Winds – Weather Advisory - December 28, 2025

Residents are encouraged to take precautions during freezing rain and windy conditions

Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Warning for Freezing Rain and Heavy Precipitation for the Municipality of Trent Hills.

Freezing rain is currently occurring and is expected to continue overnight. The freezing rain may briefly change over to rain Monday morning as temperatures are expected to climb to just above the freezing mark. The rain is expected to ease Monday morning.

Strong southwesterly winds are expected to develop Monday morning with the passage of a strong cold front. The winds will become northwesterly through the afternoon. The winds will ease through Monday evening.

Road and walkway conditions overnight can be hazardous due to ice build-up. Driving surfaces and walkways are likely to be slippery. Winter control operations in Trent Hills are guided by our Winter Control Quality Standards. Equipment is generally not deployed between 6:00 pm and 4:00 am, except for the Night Patrol. Emergency routes are maintained.

Power outages may occur. If your power is out, or if you encounter a hazard involving electrical infrastructure, contact Hydro One’s Power Outage & Emergency Line at 1-800-434-1235, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This line may be used to report outages, fallen trees, or other electrical emergencies.

Local utility outages are possible during the high winds. Damage to roofs, fences, branches, or soft shelters is possible. Some property damage is possible. Residents are advised to secure loose objects.

Preparing for wintry conditions includes knowing what to do before, during, and after a storm strikes with the following tips and resources:

  • Create or review your emergency plans and 72-hour preparedness kits. Visit Emergency Management Ontario for more information.
  • If your power goes out or if there is a hazard involving an electric utility, contact the Hydro One Power Outage & Emergency Line by dialing 1.800.434.1235 (24 hours, 7 days a week). This number can be used to report a power outage, fallen tree, or emergency.
  • Test all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly. If a power outage occurs, use flashlights and battery-powered lighting. Keep fresh batteries on hand and never use candles as a light source.
  • Be ready if the heat stops working. Wear extra layers of clothing and use blankets to stay warm. If you use an emergency heat source, keep anything that can burn at least three feet away from family members, pets, and other household items.
  • Turn portable heaters off when you leave the room and when you go to bed.
  • If your primary source of heat fails, only use secondary sources of heat that are approved for indoor use. All fuel and wood burning heaters must be properly vented to the outside of your home to prevent the accumulation of carbon monoxide.
  • If you rely on a generator in the event of a power failure, keep the generator away from your home and garage to prevent the accumulation of carbon monoxide in your home.
  • Stay updated by signing up to receive news and notices from the Municipality of Trent Hills and follow along on Facebook and Instagram.

Welcome to the Gunshot Treaty Lands of 1788. It is on these lands and on the shores of the big lake, the Mississauga Anishinabeg met with the Crown to facilitate the opening of these lands for
