The Municipality of Trent Hills (The Municipality) is initiating a Schedule ‘C’ Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study for the proposed expansion of the existing Hastings Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF). This Class EA study will identify the extent of expansion required at the Hastings WWTF to accommodate projected population growth in the Village and to address current capacity limitations.
A Public Information Centre (PIC) 1 is being held to introduce the project, preliminary results of activities completed to-date and to solicit public and indigenous communities’ feedback on the information presented. The PIC will follow a drop-in format. Project team representatives will be available to answer questions and discuss next steps.
The Process
The Class EA study is being carried out in accordance with the requirements of a Schedule ‘C’ project of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (October 2000, last amended in 2024). The Class EA study will identify and evaluate alternative design concepts for the WWTF. Preferred treatment design concepts will be selected to minimize technical, socio-cultural, natural environmental and economic impacts.
The Class EA process includes public, indigenous and external agency consultation, an evaluation of alternative solutions, an assessment of potential impacts associated with the proposed improvements, and development of measures to mitigate identified impacts.
Public Consultation
Public consultation is an integral component of the Class EA process, and your input is valued during the planning process. This PIC is the first of two PICs that will be held in association with the Class EA study. Notices are published in local newspapers, on the Municipality’s website (www.trenthills.ca) and distributed to all individuals, communities, and agencies who express an interest in this project.
If you wish to be placed on the Project Contact List to receive notices and information, or, to provide comments at any time during the process you can do so by contacting:

Land Acknowledgement
We recognize the traditional keepers of this land and, specifically our neighbours of the Alderville First Nation, with a formal territorial acknowledgement.
Welcome to the Gunshot Treaty Lands of 1788. It is on these lands and on the shores of the big lake, the Mississauga Anishinabeg met with the Crown to facilitate the opening of these lands for
settlement.
Let us be reminded of the responsibility we all have in making sure that we respect these lands and waters that give us life and sustain our livelihoods.
