Public Consultation Invited on Future of Balaclava Street Bridge

The Municipality is inviting community feedback on the future of the Balaclava Street Bridge, following a recent change in its status and condition.

Originally closed to vehicular traffic in May 2000, the bridge was most recently closed to pedestrian access as of June 24, 2025, following a report to Council outlining structural concerns. In light of its long-standing closure to vehicles and the availability of alternative routes in the vicinity, municipal staff are now evaluating the potential for the bridge’s permanent removal.

Before any decisions are made, residents are encouraged to share their perspectives through a brief community survey. Feedback collected will be summarized in a forthcoming staff report to Council, which will include recommendations for next steps.

How to Participate in the Survey:

The survey will remain open until July 30, 2025.

Public input is an essential part of this process, and the Municipality would like to thank all residents for taking the time to share their views on this important community matter.
