Project History
The planning for this recreation centre evolved from a focus group conducted 15 years ago that identified an aquatics facility as a gap in recreation in the community. Demand for year round aquatics programming has been and continues to be consistently high in Trent Hills.
The Municipality of Trent Hills then developed a Recreation Redevelopment Plan with the goal of meeting the recreation and wellness needs of the community as well as address the aging recreation infrastructure. The identified projects included the Hastings Field House, Campbellford Recreation and Wellness Centre, and improvements to the Warkworth Arena.
Trent Hills Council of the day had the foresight to dedicated funds from the municipal budget each year for the implementation of the Recreation Redevelopment Plan. Beginning at $50,000 per year and increasing over a number of years to the final level of $550,000 per year.
At the same time the Campbellford Seymour Community Foundation pledged a total of $2 million over 10 years for the Campbellford Recreation and Wellness Centre project. The Flourish fundraising campaign was launched to raise awareness of the project and gain community support.
